FIXMIRO is a place to understand your electrical system. It is not a substitute
for a qualified person standing in front of it. Please read this page before you act on
anything you find here.

Safety first. Electrical work can kill you and can burn down a house.

use this site as a reason to do work yourself that belongs with a licensed electrician. If you

and about the National Electrical Code. It is not an inspection, not an approval, not a

written with your installation in mind, because I have never seen it.

Codes differ and codes change

The NEC is a model code. Your state, county or city decides which edition applies, may
amend it, and may require permits and inspections that are not mentioned here. Existing
installations are usually judged by the rules in force when they were built. Always confirm
with your local authority having jurisdiction.

Calculators and tools

The calculators on this site are aids, not design documents. They use simplified,
published methods, they make assumptions that are stated on each tool, and they do not
replace a full engineering calculation. Verify every result before you size, buy or install
anything. You remain responsible for what you do with the output.

Prices are ranges, not quotes

Cost figures are typical national ranges meant to give you a sense of scale. They are not
offers, estimates or quotations, and the real price for your house can fall well outside
them.
